Today we pitched our idea to Annie and the rest of the group. It went quite well considering that Nicola hadn’t seen the presentation until today, so she had to just go with it! We didn’t get much chance to go in to the style of our piece and how we would each contribute to our individual roles, but Annie gave us some advice on the narrative structure which meant that we would have to reconsider our ending.
At the time of the presentation our ending took us back to the middle of the film, the guy would meet another mum and it is implied that the process is going to start again - it was a cyclical narrative. However, this does not fit the three act structure which Annie is looking for in our work. The 2 act structure is as follows:
- · Inciting Incident
- · Plot point 1
- · Midpoint
- · Plot point 2
- · Resolution
We spent a while after the presentation going through what we could change in order for our film to fit the structure. We have decided that the story will go exactly the same except for the ending where, instead of him moving on to somebody else, Jack will get the original mum. The mum will come in to collect some of Shaun’s belongings and will agree to a date with Jack.
I am a little concerned that our story still doesn’t fit the three act structure – for me the plot points aren’t clear. We have a meeting on Monday morning though so we will go through it then.
